Mystical Room Vibes

IMG_4237

While decorating my new apartment bedroom I thought about the vibe I wanted my room to have. Definitely spooky, with touches of old world elegance. Collecting beautiful pieces with skulls and other spooky aspects is something I can typically only do during October. However, every year during Halloween time I rummage through T.J. Maxx, Homegoods, and Marshall’s for the perfect spooky and elegant decor!

Creating a space where I can display my own personality made decorating  super fun! Pinterest is the best place to cultivate decor vibes as well as other fun DIY ideas for your apartment or bedroom. I currently have a bedroom Pinterest board as well as a spooky vibes Pinterest board where I can sort through items to create a mood for my room.

I’m currently working on a spooky gallery wall, and will post on the finished project! I’d love to see other room decor vibes as well so make sure to comment your style! I’ve often thought my spooky and elegant style was hard to work with, but once I started to collect specific items for my room everything came together.

Winter Favorites 2017

Winter Favorites 2017

Hello all! I first would like to start by saying sorry for taking so long to post! I’ve been super busy with school, family, and life stuff! I promise I’ll try harder to be more consistent with posting! Let me know what you want me to discuss in the comment section!

The first product I wanted to mention is Pixi’s Glow Tonic, which is my greatest find of, dare I say, THE ENTIRE YEAR. Since using it, I have not had one single break out. I KID YOU NOT! This product must have some magical sort of qualities to it because I’ve been swearing by this every morning! The smell is also super refreshing, like watermelon and honeydew melon! The Glow Tonic also comes in a travel size which is nice to try out without wasting your money if you don’t like it!

The next product is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, which I picked up by accident. I own a Beauty Blender as well, however I’ve noticed I’ve been reaching for the RT sponge more often than the BB. I really like the cut side to use for concealer, and then I use the pointed side to set my concealer with powder. I just found the texture so similar to the Beauty Blender, and the price point at around $7 is WAY cheaper!

Another product that caught me by surprise is Too Faced’s Hangover Replenishing Face Primer! I got the travel size version of this product while I was searching Sephora for cosmetics to bring for my trip to Hawaii. I have combination skin, which is why I was apprehensive to use this product because I hate looking too greasy! However, the product sinks into the skin when you apply it and you’re left with this super moisturized, fresh feeling! I’m not super into primers, but this one just might’ve converted me into a believer!

Another Pixi product that I stumbled upon is the H20 SkinTint–I’m in the shade cream. I wanted to try a lighter foundation or bb cream for everyday wear. I was pleasantly surprised with the buildable coverage of the SkinTint! I even mix it with my It Cosmetics CC Cream (which I’ve previously mentioned in my Fall Favorites) to make my skin a little more glowy! I also like the way it blends out with a brush, it doesn’t leave streaks or any patches! I’m definitely repurchasing this product forever!

The Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette earned it’s place in this favorites post because it makes me look like a moon goddess when I use it. I cannot get over Kat Von D products, not just for the quality but also because they’re vegan and cruelty free! At first, I was unsure about when I would use these types of iridescent highlights, however they’re super versatile! I use them as eyeshadows and even over lipsticks for extra glow!

I’ve switched to natural deodorant without aluminum, however I’m sensitive to propylene glycol. I found Schmidt’s Deodorant in Bergamot and Lime at Whole Food’s one day and I thought I would try it out. So far, this has been my favorite all natural deodorant! I’ve tried making my own and it was a disaster! But I highly recommend this brand, if you want to make the clean deodorant as well.

Burt’s Bees is an allover good brand, in terms of sustainability and product quality! I purchased the Burt’s Bees Lily Lake Lipstick from CVS because I need a more moisturizing lipstick in winter. I’ve been super pleased with the pigmentation and the hydration!

The Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine Spray is one of the more pricey products I’ve purchased in the past couple of months. I’m changing my hair from brunette back to a cooler blonde, and it’s SUPER DRY. I’ve needed something to keep it hydrated, especially during winter. My hairstylist introduced me to this spray which is sold in their salon, and I immediately fell in love! The smell is like a warm deep vanilla, and the shimmer is not chunky glitter but more natural and not greasy.

Again thanks for reading my blog, and please let me know what types of posts you’d like to see! Follow my instagram for some spooky vibes @beenbewitched

MOST AMAZING Homemade Cashew Milk

Photo: Goop

I wanted to share this recipe from The Moon Juice Cookbook because of how amazing and simple it is! I’m an avid coconut milk or almond milk drinker, and finding this super simple recipe for cashew milk was a BLESSING!

You can use almonds, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts, or cashews (or even a blend of a couple different ones)!

Nut Milk Recipe

1. Fill a bowl with water and soak nuts in it overnight, in your fridge
2. Drain the liquid from the nuts and then place the nuts in your blender with fresh water
3. Blend for a couple of seconds, be sure not to overblend because you’ll have little pieces of nuts in your     milk
4. Strain the mixture with either a cheesecloth, or I used a french press!
5. ENJOY! It’ll last in the fridge for up to 4 days!

I also love LIVE FOR the blueprint cold pressed juice cashew milk so I put some other ingredients into my cashew milk. I put a couple dashes of cinnamon, a date, agave, and vanilla extract! SO DELICIOUS!

Let me know what you think of this recipe or what other types of nut milk blends you’ve tried!

Easy Chic | A Makeup Look I Wear Almost Everyday

For an everyday look, I like to keep it light and glowy! Here’s a list of the products I use almost every single day in the order I apply them! I didn’t include my favorite brow product I use everyday, but if you want to read about that then check out my other post on Brow Products.

1. Shiseido Pureness Matifying Moisturizer  – I like to use this as my primer!

2. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla
3. Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder
4. Too Faced Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer
5. Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner – Sometimes I opt not to wear eyeliner! Either way is tres chic!
6. Maybelline Mega Plush Volum’ Express Mascara
7. MAC Lipstick in Taupe – The taupe shade is my favorite! My lips are naturally dark, and this shade is two shades darker than my natural lip color! A nude lip is ALWAYS chic!

Brow Product Hits and Misses

Hits and Misses is a new series I want to start in order to bring together reviews of specific products such as products for brows! Hits are products I found to be amazing, while Misses are products that didn’t suit me (however if you enjoy that product for yourself that’s fine! everyone’s different)!

Hits

The NYX Control Freak Brow Gel is my HOLY GRAIL! Honestly, you can’t go wrong for just $6! I’ve been using my same tube for about 4 months now and it hasn’t run out. My brows are always locked in place and it also keeps the brow product set so nothing fades

The Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Cashmere Coat is what I use daily to fill in my brows! I love this product because it’s affordable, long-lasting, and there’s so many different shades! Some products that are brow specific tend to not have a very wide shade range. That’s why I chose to use eyeshadow instead! I immediately found a shade that matches my brows!

The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color is my go-to summer product! Typically I don’t wear anything but sunscreen, eyebrow products, and chapstick to go to the beach. I love that this product is waterproof because I don’t have to worry about sweating it off! The only downside of this product is that it tends to dry out fast. I typically have only gotten a month out of each of the two pens I’ve purchased. However, I still continue to repurchase this product over summer for beach days!

Misses

The Urban Decay Brow Box is not one of my favorite products. There’s two different mixable shades to suit your specific eyebrow shade, however I still could not get the exact shade I wanted. The box also comes with a Brow wax that only made my brows sticky, while not holding them in place. For the $30 price tag I expect more from this product. However, I’ve seen the new brow pencils Urban Decay has come out with and I’m excited to try those!

The NYX Tame and Frame Brow Pomade is another product I didn’t like. The shade range is minimal, which really made it hard to match my brow color. The formula was flakey, even while brushing the product through my brows I had a substantial amount of fallout.

The Benefit Gimme Brow is another product I expected more from. At first, I loved this product! Within three days the product started to dry out and cake up on the wand. I always replace the cap IMMEDIATELY after use, so I don’t think the dryness was human error!

Finally, the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel is another product that I wasn’t completely happy with. The product REALLY REALLY held my brows in place, like cement almost! I feel like the NYX Control Freak Brow Gel really shows that a product can hold brows in place and not be too unnatural. I would definitely use this product if I had an important event to go to, but I personally would not use it everyday.

Fall Favorites 2016

Fall Favorites

The first product I’ve recently purchased is the Anatomy of a Fragrance Honey Rose Perfume, which is HEAVENLY!! Another rose product that I’m obsessed with is the Rosewater spray I purchased from Whole Foods. I like to spray this product on my face before makeup, after makeup, and throughout the day! I always feel super refreshed after using it!

The It Cosmetics CC Your Skin But Better Illuminating Cream has been a life saver for me! I use it almost everyday because I feel like it brightens up my skin even when I’m tired! Another skin care product I’ve just started using is the Bioderma Micellar Cleansing Water. When I take my makeup off at the end of the day (or if I’m too lazy to actually wash my face) I just use the micellar water with a cotton pad to cleanse my face quickly! The Vaseline Pink Bubbly Lip Balm is another product I love to use at the end of the day. Honestly, it smells exactly like a sparkling pink champagne which is why it’s my newest favorite.

Recently, I’ve also gotten my hair dyed and I want to keep it looking fresh until my next haircut! My stylist recommended the Kevin Murphy Shampoo and Conditioner in the Plumping Wash. The smell is so sweet and light because it’s formulated with ginger root and nettle extracts!

Finally, I’ve just started trying out more Korean skincare products. The TonyMoly Intense Care Snail Hydro-gel Mask has become one of my favorites. Sheet masking is such a fun part of my weekly routine! I’ll take 20 minutes while taking a break from homework or studying to sheet mask, which is such a treat!

Preparing for winter when you’re from California…

Originally from Los Angeles, California, I moved to Chicago thinking about how cool it would be to experience a REAL city with REAL subway systems and REAL life on my own. I completely forgot about the different climate part. Buying winter clothes in California was easier than I thought it would be, because of the outlets near Camarillo that sell items for people taking vacations to ski or snowboard. Shopping for winter clothes still seemed fun at the time (because who doesn’t want a new wardrobe!?)

Here is a list of tips I’ve learned from the past few winters I’ve experience without ever have been in snow before moving…
1. BUY A MINI SPACE HEATER!
Even if your building has heat, you save so much more money with a mini space heater! I got mine from Amazon and literally found it so much easier to EXIST with one.
2. BUNDLE YOSELF!
Layering is a MUST!! Honestly, I probably wear leggings, jeans, boots at the same time. I ALSO pack on a tank top, long sleeve, puffy winter coat, and gloves. ALWAYS HAVE GLOVES WITH YOU.
3. TRAVEL TEA MUGS
Dragging myself to class when there’s snow outside is the hardest thing for me! I’ve even decided this coming winter quarter to take one online class so I only have to walk to three classes. Bringing hot tea with me in those cute David’s Tea or Teavana tea tumblers is like a reward for going through all that cold weather.
4. TANNING SALONS
I’ve noticed that every winter, with less sun, I get a little more moody or sad. My first winter in Chicago I was talking to my mom about it and she suggested that I go to a tanning salon. I know this sounds so weird but keep reading. So, I went into the tanning salon and laid in the bed with the lowest setting for the least amount of time (15 minutes I think) and felt REVIVED AFTER. Being from California, I’m used to sun all year long and without it I get so cranky!
5. KEEP BUSY
My final tip might be a no-brainer to some, but it took me a while to realize. Being cooped up inside really gets your stress and anxiety levels up sometimes. Picking a new hobby or craft that you can enjoy indoors really helps lower those stress levels. Last year, while drowning in both Chemistry and Biology class homework loads, I figured out that I’m really interested in trying new recipes! I love cooking, who knew?
